Summer Series Vol. 3: How I Style a Pair of Levi Shorts

Hello again,

Welcome back to the third edition of my little Summer Series! In this series, I pick a piece of clothing at a time and present to you the various ways that I style them. I'm a big enthusiast when it comes to versatile items of clothing, and I feel that adding your own little individual touches is one of the most important things you can do when sporting any item you love…

This week, I opted for a classic pair of Levi denim shorts. A necessity when it comes to a wardrobe filled with souvenirs from a vintage shopping spree – everyone should have a pair of these thrown somewhere in their closet. They are perfect for all of seasons; pair with black tights and an oversized boyfriend coat in the winter, or team up with a vintage blouse and basket bag in the summer. Whatever season it may be, they are definitely fail safe…

It may not look like summer outside right now, but I thought that this little series of mine must go on…

Stripy Comfort

Here, I took a leaf out of my French fashion icon's books by opting for comfortable stripes. An oversized jumper tucked into a pair of Levi shorts is perfect for a day like today – aka the epitome of a dreary, British summer day: muggy yet overcast. I adore the look of some classic Parisian stripes teamed up with any colour of denim. It's a combination that will never fail you – and there's definitely nothing wrong with playing it safe.

On my feet, I furthered the comfort by throwing on some trusty, cream slingbacks. I love the slightly pointed style of these – they can make any old outfit look classy in a matter of seconds…

I added a little hardware to this ensemble by throwing on my beloved Western belt and vintage croc bag. I have recently grown into these shorts, but they are still a little loose around the waist area. Therefore, this belt will remain as their little companion for now…

The White Shirt Combo

I've mentioned once before that a classic white shirt tied up along with a pair of high waist, vintage shorts are one of my favourite looks to date. I don't know what it is about it – it's just such a timeless attire to opt for. However, in this case, I chose a white, styled shirt of mine, as opposed to any old shirt with that typical style. A 'work shirt', if you will…

I also opted for a neck scarf to subtly inject my love of polka dots into the outfit. I've been after a polka dot neck scarf for what seems like ages, yet my search remained incomplete. That was until I purchased a polka dot top from a charity shop that I then changed my mind about. Low and behold, a DIY polka dot neck scarf – it may not be perfect, but it will do for now!

The beauty of neck scarves is that if you're a quick mind-changer like me, they're easy peasy to whip off if you suddenly don't like the look of it with what you're wearing…

I stuck to my guns regarding vintage by dusting off my favourite vintage bag and adding it to this combination. I feel like I've somewhat neglected this beauty as of late (blame the basket bag…), so here it makes it's grand return. I completed this look by adding my favourite pair of black, strappy, patent flats to modernise the outfit slightly.

Bar Attire

Oh, would you look at that? Polka dots again! May I introduce to you the latest member of my little blouse family. I literally have this in white – but who says you can't have too many blouses? Not me, that's for sure…

I feel that this new edition would be perfect for a more formal scene, such as a bar or a restaurant. However, these shorts are perfect if you're like me and want to stay in your comfort zone in such settings.

You can't argue that dots and denim are the perfect marriage – so it was inevitable that this new member would be sported with some Levi branded item… I actually wore this blouse to a gig last night, teamed up with some full length Levi jeans. Despite the fact that it still stinks of beer (will I ever go to a gig and not be caught in the middle of some drunken idiots deciding to form some sort of beer fountain?), it still does wonders for me.

On my feet, I furthered the more formal dress code by sporting my trusty pair of vintage block heels.

So that's a wrap…

I hope you've enjoyed my little ramble about these fail safe shorts. I'm off to Devon on Saturday, so hopefully, if the weather holds out, I'll be styling them in all sorts of ways – fingers crossed!

Until next time,

Thanks for Reading | Lucy Violet x
